Happy New (Election) Year!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as if you didn't have enough of a headache after last night's celebrations, I have to remind you that the new year you just celebrated the beginning of is an election year. And not just any election year, but a presidential election year.

Yes, Dear Readers, our ruling class is going for the Big Enchilada ... so if you thought last years midterm elections were bad, just wait for the coming months, in which you'll be buried in political junk mail, assailed by dozens of robo-calls per day, and treated to screaming attack ads on TV and radio. Of course, none of these will tell you why you should vote for candidate X ... they'll just tell you that you should vote against candidate Y because he/she is a no-good socialist radical/lying scumbag/non-citizen/right of Atilla the Hun/left of Lenin/wholly-owned subsidiary of big business/draft-dodging/baby-raping/tax-and-spend liberal (said with dripping scorn)/heartless hyperconservative (said with dripping scorn)/etc.

It's what our democracy has come to. As a gentleman named Hansell B. Duckett once said, "What this country needs is more free speech worth listening to."

I'll have lots to say about the candidates, the issues, and the campaign in the coming months. Hopefully, you will find it worth listening to. For now, I'll just try to relax and enjoy the last two days of vacation before I have to go back and face the new year.

Which, of course, is hard enough in a normal year.

Do you suppose the Mayans were thinking of Democrats and Republicans when they created that calendar ...?

Have a good day. Happy New Year ... we're all in this together!

More thoughts tomorrow.

Owwww! I think I'll put my telly and mobile on mute for the duration. I'm afraid that the Demopcrats and Repulbicans will make up hope that the Mayans will be right!

I start off the New Year with two spelling errors. I'm thinking that doesn't augur well.

Happy New Year!

Yes, an election year: we get to choose between the clown on the left and the clown on the right. This is starting to look like DWTS. Oh well, I first voted in 2004: such magnificent choices we had then!
