Musical Monday

One of the giants of country music - Merle Haggard - passed away last Wednesday on his birthday. He was 79 years old. Haggard recorded more than three dozen number 1 country hits in a career that spanned six decades, from the 1960s into the 2010s. He overcame an early life of petty crime and a prison term in San Quentin to develop a rugged, outlaw image that helped sell millions of records.

He drew on his life and experiences to flavor his music, including this song, which was one of his biggest hits ...

So long, Merle. You're leaving a big hole in country music that will be hard to fill.

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.
